The New Organ-The Beginning

The Worship Committee realized the need for a new organ and recommended to the Session that a fund be established and plans move forward for that purchase.

The Session approved and formed the Organ Committee. Members are:

The committee first met on October 26, 2004. At this meeting the purchase of a Pipe organ, Digital organ, and hybrid organ was discussed. The committee decided to pursue a digital organ not only because of the initial cost of pipes but because of the maintenance of a pipe organ. An Allen organ representative met with us that day. Initial cost to replace the sanctuary organ with a new Allen would be about $150,000.

In November, Dr. Con discussed the Johannus organ with Mrs. Radford.
He purchased one for his home. She played that instrument and researched them independently. The sound was impressive.
Dr. Con contacted the Johannus representatives for the committee and Mr. Ted Young of Digital Soundwaves contacted Mrs. Radford and sent information for the committee.

On May 18, Bill and Annette Smith, Sue Meikle, Connie Connell, Pam Radford, and Adam Con went to Columbia, S.C. to play and listen to a Johannus organ installed at First Baptist Church and meet and discuss the organs with Ted Young. Every member was impressed with the sound of the instrument and with Ted Young. Digital Soundwaves has a promotional offer that extends thru July 5 that the committee hopes to take advantage of.
The offer is a 7’6” grand piano FREE with the purchase of an organ!!!
We played the pianos while in Columbia also.

Ted Young provided a list of references. These were churches and homes where he had installed Johannus organs. Pam Radford contacted 6 of the references. They all had glowing comments about the organ and about the service and integrity of Ted Young.

On May 27, 2005 Ted Young came to Statesboro to see our sanctuary and discuss an installation.

The committee met on Monday June 13, 2005 to discuss the final proposal from Digital Soundwaves. The committee agreed to have Connie Connell bring the proposal to the Session at their upcoming meeting. Since the Session has already approved the purchase of a new organ, the purpose of bringing this proposal to them is to see if they wish to go ahead with the purchase to take advantage of the promotional offers in place thru July 5.

The Session met on June 19, 2005 and approved the purchase of a new organ. They agreed to go ahead with the purchase to take advantage of the promotional offers. Mrs. Radford sent in the signed contracts and the $20,000 deposit on July 1, 2005. pr
