Our Church Government
We practice a representational government within our church.
The Session
The Session is the governing body in each of the Presbyterian Church (USA) local churches.
At FPC of Statesboro, it is made up of 12 ordained Elders of the congregation and the Pastor.
The Pastor is the official Session Moderator.
All members of the Session are entitled to vote.
The Elders are the Moderators of the 8 committees that run the church. These committees are:
- Administration
- Christian Education
- Communication
- Facilities
- Mission
- Pastoral Care
- Service
- Worship
A term is held for three years, and each year a new class of Elders rotates on, as another rotates off, so there is constantly new energy and ideas.
The Session meets regularly once a month. "Called" meetings may also be necessary for special issues that arise.
Any member is welcome to attend a Session meeting, including staff members.
The Clerk of the Session attends the meetings and takes the Meeting Minutes.
