The Silver Lining Club

1. Providing support for Alzheimer's and related patients
2. Involving the congregation and community in the ministry of caring
3. The only program of its kind in Bulloch County
4. A service involving participants of all ages
5. Each Saturday, beginning at 10 AM

Most people enjoy remembering the past and thinking about their good and bad times. Some, however, have been cut off from their fondest memories. The illness is known as Alzheimer's Disease.

The Silver Lining Club helps two kinds of people affected by the disease: the victim and the caregiver. The caregiver needs time for his or her needs, even if it amounts to a day to shop or catch up on reading. The Alzheimer's sufferer attends the Silver Lining Club, an organized program designed to provide stimulation and support.

These individuals deserve to have a place in the mainstream of life. It is important to "give much needed socialization, allowing them to visit with people and participate in activities such as arts and crafts and chair exercises."

Weekly programs bring together the generations.

These activities are part of the day's schedule:

- Music time, with a volunteer at the piano
- Movement or dancing
- Lunch
- Craft projects
- Story telling
- Programs and dramas presented by young people

WHAT IS ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE?

Alzheimer's is a progressive, irreversible neurological disorder which typically strikes victims who are older than 65. However, Alzheimer's can show up in people in their 40s and 50s. According to the Alzheimer's Association, close to 700 people in Bulloch County currently suffer from the disease. This number will probably double during the next two decades, as baby boomers reach their 60s. dp
